Breeze Airways, a low-cost airline based in Salt Lake City, has announced the establishment of its 11th crew base at Ohio’s Akron-Canton Airport (CAK). This development could pave the way for new nonstop destinations from the airport, which is located about an hour south of Cleveland.

“The Akron-Canton community continues to show high demand for Breeze’s premium, convenient service, so establishing a base in the community is a natural fit,” said David Neeleman, founder and CEO of Breeze Airways.

While no new routes have been announced yet, past crew base announcements by Breeze have often led to new routes. The airline plans to create 61 pilot, flight attendant, and maintenance jobs over the next three years as part of this expansion. This move helped Breeze secure a tax credit deal with Ohio lawmakers.

Breeze has maintained a presence at Akron-Canton since 2021 and currently serves nine nonstop destinations. According to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium, no airline offered more seats from CAK than Breeze in 2024.

Breeze competes with Allegiant Air as one of two low-cost carriers at CAK. Meanwhile, Frontier Airlines is expanding its operations at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE), located about 50 miles north.

The Akron-Canton crew base is expected to launch this summer as part of Breeze’s ongoing national expansion. The airline also aims to announce its first international flights by spring.
