British Airways announced on Apr. 3 that it will launch or resume 12 routes from London airports beginning in April 2026, expanding its network to include both new and returning destinations. The additions will come from four different London airports, with seven of the routes operating out of Heathrow.
The expansion is significant for travelers as it increases options for both domestic and international flights from the UK capital. British Airways currently accounts for about 28% of all flights departing from London when considering its mainline, EuroFlyer, and CityFlyer units combined.
Among the newly introduced or resumed services are flights from Heathrow to Guernsey and St. Louis (the latter being a brand-new market), Gatwick to Kalamata and Colombo, City to Toulon, Stansted to Olbia, Gatwick to Chania and Barbados, Heathrow to Tivat and San Jose (Costa Rica), as well as a daily service between Heathrow and Melbourne via Kuala Lumpur starting January 9, 2027. The airline last served Melbourne two decades ago.
According to James Pearson in his report for Simple Flying, “The addition of St. Louis brings the carrier’s US network to 27 airports this year.” He also noted that British Airways plans a record number of US departures in July 2026—an average of 51 daily flights—which is up five percent compared with July 2019.

With these new routes set for launch over several months through early January 2027—and more likely announcements ahead—the expansion reflects ongoing growth opportunities for British Airways within London’s competitive air travel market.
