Copa Airlines announced on April 28 a major agreement to purchase up to 60 additional Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with the deal valued at approximately $13.5 billion at list prices. The Panama-based carrier said deliveries are expected between 2030 and 2034, subject to possible adjustments.

The new order is one of the largest in Copa’s history and aims to support long-term growth and fleet modernization as passenger demand increases across Latin America. The airline expects that, combined with existing commitments, its fleet will surpass 200 aircraft by the next decade.

Copa currently operates an all-Boeing narrowbody fleet consisting of both newer MAX models and older Next Generation jets. The company will have flexibility in selecting between the Boeing 737 MAX 8, MAX 9, and MAX 10 variants depending on future needs, according to Reuters. Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines, said this expansion would reinforce Panama’s role as a regional aviation hub and help expand connectivity throughout the Americas.

The airline projects it will carry about 20.9 million passengers in 2026 with numbers expected to rise beyond 27 million by decade’s end. Copa serves more than eighty destinations in thirty-two countries through its Panama City hub at Tocumen International Airport.

Boeing continues as Copa’s exclusive narrowbody supplier since the airline shifted fully to an all-737 fleet in recent years. Industry demand for fuel-efficient single-aisle jets remains strong worldwide as airlines modernize their fleets amid rising travel demand.
