Delta Air Lines and The Delta Air Lines Foundation have announced a substantial commitment to Clayton County, Georgia, through more than $16.5 million in charitable support over the next five years. This initiative focuses on the Metro Atlanta community near Delta’s headquarters and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The $13.5 million from The Delta Air Lines Foundation will aid in creating a Discovery Center and offering scholarships aimed at fostering careers in aviation. Delta Air Lines will contribute an additional $3 million to bolster workforce development and establish a fund for local nonprofits.

“Delta’s mission to connect the world starts with our commitment to the communities where we live, work and serve,” remarked Peter Carter, Delta’s Chief External Affairs Officer and trustee of The Delta Air Lines Foundation.

The establishment of the Clayton County Delta Junior Achievement Discovery Center will enable students to gain real-world skills in financial literacy, business readiness, and entrepreneurship. This project is supported by a $10 million grant shared between the Clayton County Public Schools Foundation and Junior Achievement of Georgia, and will be located in a new facility at Southlake Mall.

Furthermore, $2.5 million will be provided in scholarships to Middle Georgia State University for students interested in aviation. This initiative is part of Delta’s broader program, designed to provide students with a direct path to employment with Delta and its subsidiary, Endeavor Air.

Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock of Georgia expressed support, emphasizing the investment as a commitment to Clayton County’s future. Dr. Alieka Anderson-Henry, Chairwoman of the Clayton County Board, highlighted the enduring relationship between Clayton County and Delta.

Yasmin Neal, Georgia state Representative, praised the partnership as a significant benefit for Clayton County. Since 2018, The Delta Air Lines Foundation, through its initiatives, has committed more than $33 million in charitable contributions to Clayton County.

U.S. Representative Nikema Williams acknowledged how these charitable efforts will impact the local community and its youth. CCPS Superintendent Dr. Anthony W. Smith praised the collaboration as a transformative step toward improving local education and economy.

John Hancock, President and CEO of Junior Achievement of Georgia, expressed gratitude for the investment. The initiative aims to educate approximately 25,000 students each year and increase economic opportunities for Georgia’s youth.

Delta’s five-year plan also includes grants for the Clayton County Schools Foundation and Junior Achievement of Georgia, as well as investments in Middle Georgia State University and local organizations, totaling $16.5 million.
