Delta Air Lines is expanding its services in the South Pacific with a new nonstop route from Los Angeles to Melbourne, starting in December 2025. This addition marks Delta’s third direct destination in Australia, complementing existing routes to Sydney and another unnamed city. The airline aims to enhance connectivity between the United States and one of Australia’s vibrant cities.

Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta, stated, “Delta’s new service to Melbourne reflects our commitment to connecting customers with the world’s most exciting destinations.” He highlighted Delta’s status as the largest carrier at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and emphasized the premium experience offered to travelers.

The route will be serviced by the Airbus A350-900, providing passengers with four travel classes: Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin. Each class offers various amenities designed for comfort on long-haul flights. For instance, Delta One Suites provide fully reclining seats and chef-curated meals.

Travelers can also take advantage of Delta’s facilities at LAX, including the Delta One Lounge which offers premium food and beverage options along with private TSA screening. The airline’s $2.3 billion transformation project at LAX includes a modernized Terminal 3 featuring a centralized check-in lobby and expanded security checkpoint.

Melbourne is known for its cultural richness, offering visitors experiences ranging from art galleries to sporting events like its Grand Slam tournament. It also serves as a gateway to natural attractions such as the Great Ocean Road and Yarra Valley vineyards.

With this new route, Delta extends its reach in the South Pacific to five cities, including Auckland and Papeete. The airline provides over 150 peak-day departures from LAX to nearly 60 destinations globally. From Melbourne, travelers can connect conveniently to more than 40 U.S. cities through major hubs like New York and Atlanta.

Delta continues to receive accolades for operational excellence and was named North America’s most on-time airline in 2024 by The Wall Street Journal.
