Delta Air Lines will resume its nonstop service between Boston and Honolulu, making it the longest domestic flight in the United States at 5,095 miles. The airline will use an Airbus A330-300 for this route, which will start on December 19 with daily flights before shifting to a four-times-weekly schedule during the winter season. This move restores a connection that was previously served by both Delta and Hawaiian Airlines until last year.
The Boston-Honolulu route is currently the only direct link between New England and Hawaii. In addition to this service, Delta plans to launch a new route between Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and Kahului Airport in Maui. This will be the first direct connection from the Upper Midwest to Maui, also operated with an A330-300 aircraft. The Minneapolis-Maui flights will run daily from December 19 through the peak holiday period before switching to five times weekly during winter.
Amy Martin, Vice President of Network Planning at Delta Air Lines, stated: “Hawaii plays an important role in our long-haul leisure network. This expansion strengthens connectivity from key U.S. hubs while giving customers more choice in how they reach the islands, alongside the premium travel experience they expect on these long-haul flights.”
Delta is also increasing capacity on several existing routes to Hawaii for the upcoming winter season. The airline will add more flights between Atlanta and Honolulu, Detroit and Honolulu, as well as Salt Lake City and Kona. Starting January 4, Atlanta will have a second frequency operating three times weekly using an A330-300. Detroit’s service to Honolulu becomes daily from November 9 with the same aircraft type.
From New York JFK, Delta’s service to Honolulu increases from five weekly flights to daily using a Boeing 767-300. Hawaiian Airlines also operates this route daily with its Airbus A330. Additionally, Salt Lake City will see a new daily service to Kona starting November 9 with a Boeing 767-300, while Los Angeles receives upgraded service to Kona with the same aircraft model.
Delta’s expanded schedule is designed to meet strong demand for travel to Hawaii during winter months when warm weather attracts many visitors each year.
