FedEx collaborates on river cleanup with local nonprofit to tackle plastic pollution

フェデックスは、海洋プラスチック汚染問題に対応するため、特定非営利活動法人Hands On Tokyoと協力し、東京都の荒川河川敷で清掃活動を行いました。この活動は、廃棄物の海への流出を防ぎ、生態系を保護することを目指しています。フェデックスの従業員は、約50キログラムのごみを回収しました。

フェデックスの環境への取り組みは、清掃活動だけにとどまらず、従業員が環境保全と地域社会への奉仕に積極的に関わることで、企業文化と価値観を体現しています。日本におけるフェデックスの代表者であるマネージングディレクターの久保田圭氏は、「フェデックスでは、事業の長期的な繁栄は健全な環境が基盤になると考えています。」と述べています。また、「再利用可能な梱包材の使用、排出量削減を目的とした電気自動車(EV)の導入や既存車両へのバイオディーゼル燃料の活用など、輸送業務におけるサステナビリティ施策を推進しています。」ともコメントしました。

プラスチック廃棄物が河川敷に蓄積し、最終的に海へ流れ込む中、海洋プラスチックの重量が将来的に魚の重量を超える可能性があります。2023年度には、日本国内で約2万7千トンのプラスチック廃棄物が海洋に排出されたと推定されています。また、マイクロプラスチックの影響については、世界中で人々が毎週約5グラム摂取しているとの研究結果も報告されています。

今回の清掃活動は、「FedEx Cares」プログラムの一環として実施され、フェデックスは昨年秋にも全国で合計525キログラムのごみを回収した実績を持っています。

環境支援への取り組みを続けるフェデックスは、持続可能な未来へのコミットメントを示し続けています。
