FedEx recently organized employee-led clean-up activities in various locations across Japan, collecting about 360 kilograms of waste. The initiative is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to support environmental conservation and contribute to local communities. A total of 113 employees participated in cleaning parks, roadsides, and coastlines in regions including Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, and Osaka.
Kei Kubota, Managing Director of FedEx Express in Japan, stated: “Protecting the environment is not just a responsibility; it is a promise to the next generation. FedEx values making meaningful contributions to the communities we serve. This clean-up activity embodies our commitment to supporting local areas by creating cleaner and safer environments.”
Preventing pollution requires action at its source. Much of the plastic waste that ends up as marine debris originates from land-based sources. It is estimated that between 13,000 and 31,000 tons of plastic waste flowed from Japan into the ocean during fiscal year 2024. This presents an urgent challenge with significant impacts on marine ecosystems (https://www.env.go.jp/content/900540805.pdf).
This effort aligns with the principles of “FedEx Cares,” a global community engagement program led by FedEx that highlights its culture of giving back.
