FedEx announced on March 11 the opening of its expanded Transshipment Center at Taoyuan International Airport, marking its largest single investment in Taiwan over the past 35 years. The new facility doubles the previous footprint and significantly increases sorting capacity to meet rising demand from high-tech, semiconductor, and e-commerce sectors across Taiwan and the Asia Pacific region.

The expansion is important as it supports the growing role of Asia Pacific as a global technology hub. The region produces more than 80 percent of the world’s semiconductors, and advances in artificial intelligence and other technologies are driving increased need for reliable logistics infrastructure that connects manufacturing centers with major markets. According to the Asian Development Bank, Asia’s semiconductor industry is well positioned to thrive in the era of AI.

The upgraded center now spans about 19,000 square meters and features an automated sorting system capable of processing up to 9,000 packages per hour. Efficiency has improved by 2.5 times for imports and by 1.2 times for exports compared to the previous facility. Enhanced capabilities allow FedEx to handle express parcels, freight, hazardous materials, and cold-chain goods with greater safety and resilience. FedEx integrates monitoring technologies such as FedEx Surround Monitoring and SenseAware ID sensors into its cross-border shipping services.

“As economies across Asia Pacific become increasingly interconnected through trade and investment, businesses need a logistics backbone that can keep pace with shifting trade flows,” said Salil Chari, regional president for Asia Pacific at FedEx. “The expansion of our Taiwan Transshipment Center reinforces FedEx’s commitment to building logistics infrastructure that delivers the speed, reliability, and agility customers need to strengthen their supply chains and grow their reach across new markets.”

Supported by 40 weekly flights connecting Taiwan with destinations in the United States, Europe, and other parts of Asia Pacific, this facility enhances network capabilities for businesses seeking access to new opportunities abroad. Recent investments include new flight routes between South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Penang, Bangkok, and Paris—improving transit times for high-tech shipments.

FedEx team members have maintained a focus on outstanding customer experiences according to the official website (https://www.fedex.com). The company employs hundreds of thousands globally and handles about 17 million daily deliveries according to its official website (https://www.fedex.com). With operations serving more than 220 countries and territories worldwide according to its official website (https://www.fedex.com), FedEx continues emphasizing innovation in global logistics and supply chain management (https://www.fedex.com). Frederick W. Smith founded FedEx in 1971; among early innovations was introducing drop boxes for packages in 1975 according to information from its official website (https://www.fedex.com).

Looking ahead, FedEx says it will continue investing in air networks, digital solutions, and infrastructure supporting dynamic trade corridors throughout Asia-Pacific.
