Los Angeles World Airports announced on May 14 that the final structural steel beam has been placed for the Terminal 4 Modernization Program at Los Angeles International Airport. John Ackerman, Chief Executive Officer of Los Angeles World Airports, said, “The topping out of Terminal 4 marks an important milestone, putting us closer to what will be an enhanced airport experience for guests at LAX flying with American Airlines. We look forward to welcoming guests to this transformed facility, as Los Angeles prepares to take the global spotlight in the years ahead.”

The placement of the final beam signifies a major step forward in ongoing construction efforts at Terminal 4. The program began with enabling works in 2018 and includes two primary projects: the completed Terminal 4.5 Vertical Core and ongoing modernization of Terminal 4 itself. Upgrades include a new terminal entrance, a new south concourse, and refurbishment of connecting corridors.

More than 6,200 workers have participated in this project so far, including graduates from the HireLAX Apprenticeship Readiness Program. Workers on site earn an average hourly wage exceeding $75, and more than 2.8 million hours have been worked through March.

According to Los Angeles World Airports, these efforts are part of a broader mission to create a seamless experience for all airport guests—from first-time visitors to local residents—and align with recently unveiled branding initiatives that aim to reflect the culture and energy of Los Angeles throughout LAX.

Ackerman said he looks forward to welcoming travelers into the improved facility as work continues toward completion.
