The Gulfstream G280, a super-midsize twin-engine business jet, is manufactured by Gulfstream Aerospace in partnership with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The aircraft was first designed in 2005, developed from the Gulfstream G200, announced in 2008, and took its maiden flight on December 11, 2009. Over 200 units have been delivered since production began in 2012.

The G280 is recognized for its fuel efficiency and lower operating costs compared to similar jets like the Challenger 300 and Embraer Legacy 600. It offers advanced aerodynamics and Honeywell engines that reduce operating expenses. The new price for a G280 is $24.5 million, while pre-owned models range between $13,295,000 and $16,895,000 according to Liberty Jet.

Aircraft Cost Calculator suggests an annual budget of $2,972,459 based on using the jet for 450 hours annually with jet fuel priced at $6 per gallon. This equates to an hourly cost of $6,605. Guardian Jet estimates costs for owners flying 300 hours per year to be around $4,114,700 annually. Air Charter Advisors propose a budget of approximately $1.15 million for owners flying 200 hours yearly.

Design improvements from the G200 include a glass cockpit and more powerful engines. Honeywell HTF250G turbofan engines were incorporated along with a new T-tail design. The larger wing allows quick climbs to altitudes of up to 43,000 feet at Mach 0.82.

The aircraft was certified provisionally by Israel in December 2011 and fully certified by both Israel and the US in September 2012 after meeting FAA conditions regarding electronic systems security.

Key features of the G280 include seating for up to twelve passengers across two living zones with air filtration systems providing pure cabin air. It also boasts advanced avionics such as Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion suite and PlaneView280 EFVS.

The G280’s popularity stems from its performance capabilities and low operational costs making it suitable for cross-country and transatlantic flights.
