Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) is among the world’s busiest, having managed over 53 million passengers in 2024. The airport serves as a hub for Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong’s flag carrier, which operates more than 150 aircraft to over 80 destinations globally.

The airport’s strategic location makes it a key point for ultra-long-haul routes by both Cathay Pacific and other international carriers. According to data from Cirium, an aviation analytics firm, the following are the 12 longest nonstop routes from HKG in 2025:

1. The longest route is between Hong Kong and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), spanning 8,120 miles. Cathay Pacific will begin service on April 24, 2025, operating four flights weekly with Airbus A350-1000s before switching to A350-900s in October.

2. The second-longest route is to New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) at 8,070 miles. Cathay Pacific offers three daily services using a mix of Airbus A350-900s, A350-1000s, and Boeing 777-300ERs.

3. United Airlines will start a daily service between Hong Kong and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) from October 2025 with its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on this third-longest route of 8,063 miles.

4. To Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Cathay Pacific runs a daily service covering a distance of 7,968 miles using Airbus A350-1000s.

5. Direct flights between Hong Kong and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) cover 7,809 miles and are exclusively operated by Cathay Pacific up to three times per day with Airbus A350 models.

7. Flights to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) span 7,260 miles and are served by both Cathay Pacific and United Airlines using various aircraft including the Boeing 787-9.

8. Two airlines compete on the Hong Kong-San Francisco International Airport (SFO) route of 6,927 miles: Cathay Pacific and United Airlines.

9. At ninth place is Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB), at a distance of 6,631 miles solely serviced by Cathay Pacific with its Airbus A350-900 fleet.

10. To Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD), flights cover a distance of 6,541 miles operated year-round by Cathay Pacific four times weekly.

11. The Vancouver route spans over 6,393 miles serviced by Air Canada daily; Cathay Pacific up to thrice daily; and Hong Kong Airlines twice weekly.

12. Finally, the seasonal route to Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN) covers approximately 6,262 miles during March through October with up to four weekly flights by Cathay Pacific using Airbus A350-900s.
