Los Angeles International Airport announced on Mar. 12 the official opening of its new consolidated Rental Car Center, which brings together multiple rental car brands in one location to improve convenience and efficiency for travelers.

The new facility is intended to streamline the rental process at LAX, making it easier for visitors and residents alike to access vehicles upon arrival. The project is part of a broader effort by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to enhance the overall airport experience.

Construction on the Rental Car Center began in September 2019, with major milestones including the first concrete pour in March 2020, topping off in July 2021, and completion of adjacent roadways in early 2024. The center began limited operations in October 2024 with three Avis brands—Avis, Budget, and Payless—and has now welcomed nine additional brands following months of coordination between LAWA and rental companies.

“The new Rental Car Center at Los Angeles International Airport will be a major enhancement for travelers, providing a more streamlined and convenient rental experience,” said Tom Kennedy, President of SIXT North America. “As LAX continues its transformation, this facility represents an important step forward in operational efficiency. We are excited for both our customers and team members to benefit from these improvements as we continue to expand our presence at LAX.”

Twelve rental car brands now operate at the center as “on-airport” providers: Alamo Rent a Car, Avis Rent A Car System, Budget Rent a Car, Dollar Car Rental, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Fox Rent A Car, Hertz, National Car Rental, Payless Car Rental, Sixt, Thrifty Car Rental, and Zipcar. These companies are permitted to pick up customers directly from LAX’s Central Terminal Area via shuttle service.

Fox Rent A Car said: “We are incredibly excited to open our doors at the new LAX Car Rental Center. This is a landmark moment for Fox Rent A Car and a true testament to our commitment to the travelers of Los Angeles. Our partnership with LAX in this world-class facility marks a new era for how our customers experience car rental — one that is faster, more convenient, and more enjoyable from the moment they land.”

Located at 5251 W 98th Street in Los Angeles (90045), the center is part of LAWA’s mission to create a seamless experience for all guests. The announcement also follows LAWA’s recent unveiling of a new identity aimed at reflecting Los Angeles’ culture throughout airport operations.
