Marriott has announced it is ending its partnership with Sonder, a company known for apartment-style accommodations and boutique hotels. The termination was made public in a press release on November 9, 2025.

According to Marriott, the licensing agreement between the two companies “is no longer in effect due to Sonder’s default.” As a result, Sonder properties are no longer affiliated with Marriott, and travelers can no longer book these accommodations through Marriott channels or redeem Marriott Bonvoy points for stays at Sonder locations.

Marriott stated that it is prioritizing support for guests who are currently staying at Sonder properties or have booked upcoming stays through Marriott. “Marriott will be contacting guests who booked directly through Marriott channels, including marriott.com, the Marriott Bonvoy App and Marriott’s worldwide reservation centers, to address their reservation and booking needs,” the release stated.

For guests who used third-party travel agencies to make reservations at Sonder properties, Marriott advises contacting those agencies directly for assistance.

Sonder operates short-term rentals and boutique hotels in more than 35 cities. The partnership between the two companies was first announced in 2024. By early 2025, Sonder properties had started integrating into the Marriott Bonvoy program. Guests booking through the Sonder website could earn Bonvoy points and credits by adding their membership number during reservation.

Katie Genter of The Points Guy recently stayed at a Sonder property using Marriott Bonvoy points. She shared her experience: “I checked out of a seven-night stay at the Park House Hotel Museum Quarter, Sonder Hotel by Marriott Bonvoy, in Amsterdam on Nov. 6. Nothing seemed amiss during my stay, so Sonder’s default comes as a shock. On the positive side, the 7 elite night credits and 15,316 points I earned on this stay have already been posted to my Marriott Bonvoy account.”

Guests with current or upcoming reservations at Sonder properties booked via Marriott are encouraged to contact Marriott promptly using this link to resolve any questions about their bookings.

The abrupt end of this partnership contrasts with industry trends where hospitality brands often form new partnerships or launch additional offerings.
