Hurricane Beryl has caused significant disruption across the US, leading to over 1,400 flight cancellations and more than 2,200 delays. Major airports such as George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) have been heavily affected.

According to data from FlightAware, IAH experienced 1,015 cancellations, HOU had 308 cancellations, and DFW saw 78 cancellations. United Airlines was the most impacted carrier with 405 flights canceled. Southwest Airlines followed with 268 cancellations. Regional carriers Mesa Airlines, CommuteAir, and SkyWest Airlines also faced disruptions.

United Airlines issued a statement via Reuters: "We are continuing to monitor Beryl and have reduced flying at Intercontinental Airport of Houston (IAH) Sunday night and Monday." The airline is allowing passengers to reschedule their flights without change fees or fare differences for travel up to July 16th, 2024. Southwest Airlines has offered similar flexibility within a two-week window from the original travel date.

Beryl made landfall in Texas near Matagorda as a category one storm but has since been downgraded to a tropical storm. It has caused widespread power outages affecting millions and resulted in at least ten fatalities. Ground stops have been enforced at various airports in Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina due to extreme weather conditions.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport serves as a major hub for United Airlines' extensive network across North and Central America and several long-haul destinations including London Heathrow (LHR), Sydney (SYD), Paris (CDG), and Amsterdam (AMS). The disruption extends beyond domestic borders; Air Canada has canceled services between IAH and its hubs in Toronto (YYZ), Montreal (YUL), and Vancouver (YVR).
