Air Canada has secured eight new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft from BOC Aviation, a Singapore-based lessor. This acquisition is intended to provide the airline with greater flexibility and capacity in response to rising travel demand. The new jets will feature CFM LEAP-1B engines and are expected to be delivered over the next five months, entering commercial service next year.

The introduction of these aircraft will enable Air Canada to manage its operations more efficiently while meeting both domestic and international travel demands. The MAX 8 models incorporate advanced technologies designed to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

In addition to the new MAX 8 orders, Air Canada is awaiting deliveries of other latest-generation aircraft from Airbus and Boeing. As of May 2024, the carrier's order book includes 27 Airbus A220s, 15 Airbus A321neos, and 18 Boeing 787-10s, totaling 60 pending deliveries.

While initially configured for all-economy seating, Air Canada plans to upgrade the eight new jets later to match the standard configuration of its existing MAX 8 fleet. The standard configuration includes business class seats arranged in a 2-2 layout and economy class seats arranged in a 3-3 layout, with some economy seats offering extra legroom as Preferred seats.

Concurrently, Air Canada is retrofitting its Airbus A320 fleet with upgraded cockpit and avionics systems. This retrofit program aims to integrate features such as HUDs (Head-Up Displays), RNP AR (Required Navigation Performance Authorization Required), Soft Go-Around capabilities, among others. These enhancements are expected to improve pilots' situational awareness and operational efficiencies.

In terms of network expansion, Air Canada plans several upgrades for this winter season. These include launching new services or increasing capacity on existing routes by replacing narrowbody aircraft with widebody ones on high-demand routes such as those to Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Miami. Seasonal equipment upgrades will also be implemented for flights to these destinations using Airbus A330-300s, Boeing 777-200LRs, and Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

Additionally, Air Canada intends to boost its winter operations by adding services to over fifty popular destinations in the US and Caribbean. The airline also aims to increase services to India by introducing non-stop flights between Toronto and Mumbai along with improvements on other routes within India.
