SATS Ltd., a provider of air cargo handling services and food solutions in Asia, announced today the restructuring of its Gateway Services business into two new units: the Singapore Hub and Gateway Services Asia-Pacific.

The restructuring aims to continue investment in Singapore while expanding SATS' international presence. Bob Chi, currently CEO of Gateway Services, will become CEO of Gateway Services Asia-Pacific. Henry Low, presently COO at SATS, will take over as CEO of the Singapore Hub. Both appointments are effective from October 1, 2024.

Gateway Services includes ground handling services such as passenger handling, baggage services, aircraft handling, security services, and cargo handling critical for airport operations.

In addition to its operations in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region, SATS provides similar services through Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) stations in the Americas and the Europe-Middle East-Africa-Asia (EMEAA) region. In 2023, SATS acquired WFS for S$1.8 billion, expanding its network to 215 stations in 27 countries.

The Singapore Hub will focus on enhancing aviation hub competitiveness in Singapore by supporting Changi Airport, Seletar Airport, and associated aviation industries. The unit aims to leverage SATS’ global capabilities to ensure operational excellence and improved performance for airport users in Singapore.

Gateway Services Asia-Pacific will aim to grow SATS Group’s market share across APAC by managing operations at overseas airports through subsidiaries, joint ventures, and associates.

Kerry Mok, president and CEO of SATS said: “Today’s announcement is aligned with our overarching goal and ambition to accelerate SATS’s growth into a global multinational corporation. The Singapore Hub represents our commitment to ensure the continued success of Singapore’s aviation sector and Changi Airport by providing safe and efficient operations around the clock.”

Mok added: “We are proud of the reputation that SATS Gateway Services has earned in supporting airlines and customers at Changi Airport. I thank Bob for decades of tireless service building Gateway Services into what it is today. I am confident Bob has the experience, drive and network that will place Gateway Services Asia-Pacific on a strong footing to create long-term value for SATS through increased market share in the international arena.”
