Citibank has introduced the new Citi Strata PremierSM Card, a rebranded version of the Citi Premier Card with minor improvements. This move signifies continued investment in the Citi ThankYou Rewards travel portfolio.

The Citi Premier card is no longer available, and existing cardholders will be transitioned to the new Strata card without losing any benefits. The cards are considered part of the same family for new cardmember bonus eligibility.

The initial bonus for the Strata Premier Card includes earning 70,000 bonus ThankYou® Points after spending $4,000 in the first three months of account opening. These points can be redeemed for $700 in gift cards or travel rewards at thankyou.com. However, Citibank's website directly offers an alternative of 75,000 points.

Cardholders can earn 10 points per dollar spent on hotels, car rentals, and attractions booked through CitiTravel.com; 3 points per dollar on air travel and other hotel purchases, restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations, and EV charging stations; and 1 point per dollar on all other purchases. The annual fee for the card is $95.

Additional benefits include a $100 hotel credit on stays of $500 or more booked through the Citi Travel portal once per calendar year. The inclusion of EV charging earnings and enhanced travel protections marks a rollback from previous cuts.

Points earned with this card can be transferred to various frequent flyer programs across different alliances including SkyTeam (Aeromexico Club Premier, Air France KLM Flying Blue), oneworld (Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Malaysia Airlines Enrich), Star Alliance (Avianca LifeMiles), and non-alliance partners like Emirates Skywards and JetBlue TrueBlue.

Despite some expectations for more revolutionary changes rather than modest updates and rebranding efforts, this launch indicates Citibank's commitment to marketing a travel card with transferable points. The substantial acquisition bonus further underscores this commitment.
