GHA Discovery is offering its rewards currency, Discovery Dollars, at a discount through August 31. The discount rate varies based on the member's status within the program. Purchases are processed by Points.com and may take up to two business days to credit. Purchased points expire after 24 months.

Discovery Dollars function as cash for use at checkout at participating hotels, effectively allowing members to prepay for hotel expenses at a discount of up to 15%. However, there are several trade-offs to consider.

Members do not earn Discovery Dollars on amounts paid with Discovery Dollars, potentially forfeiting up to 7% back on those amounts. Additionally, credit card bonuses are not earned on purchased Discovery Dollars since they are processed by Points.com rather than being classified as hotel charges. For example, using a Chase card would typically earn three points per dollar on hotel spend; thus, purchasing Discovery Dollars means giving up these points and their associated value.

Discovery Dollars cannot be used against prepaid charges as they must be redeemed on property. This could result in paying higher rates unless spending occurs on non-room expenses such as food, beverages, or spa services.

For individuals who usually book prepaid rates and do not spend on additional services like food or spa treatments, this deal may not be beneficial. They might lose out on potential savings from prepaid rates and rebates in exchange for the discounted Discovery Dollars.

Conversely, for those who book non-prepaid discounted rates or prefer flexible booking options due to changing plans, this offer could provide significant value—especially for members with GHA status who receive the largest rebates.

GHA Discovery is currently running a promotion that offers up to 94% back on stays for dedicated guests and includes an opportunity for one participant to win $200,000 for future stays.
