On July 31, 2023, Covenant Living of Northbrook and Signature Flight Support collaborated to offer local US war veterans a Dream Flight at Chicago Executive Airport. Facilitated by the non-profit organization Dream Flights, these veterans experienced a ride in the Spirit of Wisconsin, piloted by Darryl Smith. The aircraft, a 1943 Stearman previously used for training military aviators during WWII, now provides veterans across the United States with nostalgic journeys.

The event saw seven local veterans from WWII, Vietnam, and the Korean War participate. Each veteran had a special connection to aviation and took their seat in the front cockpit of the open Stearman. They viewed familiar landmarks such as their homes and military bases from above, leading to moments of joy and renewal upon landing.

Dream Flights provided the Stearman as part of its mission to honor those who served by offering them an opportunity to fly once more. Volunteers from Dream Flights’ sponsor, Supercuts, alongside Darryl Smith and his wife, ensured that both veterans and their families created cherished memories.
