Air Canada Aeroplan is offering a bonus of up to 125% on purchased points through July 11. After this date, the bonus will decrease to up to 100% from July 12-19.

Customers can buy or gift up to 500,000 miles plus the applicable bonus, with an annual purchase limit per account set at 1 million miles. When using a U.S. credit card with a U.S. billing address, no tax is applied. A 125% bonus results in purchasing points at just over 1.1 U.S. cents per point.

The bonus structure includes a 60% bonus for purchases between 3,000 and 20,000 points, an 85% bonus for purchases between 25,000 and 50,000 points, and a maximum of a 125% bonus for purchases between 60,000 and 500,000 points. This equates to buying points at approximately 1.14 U.S. cents per point.

"I purchased miles with this offer last November," said one customer. "A 125% bonus was a no-brainer for me and the only question was how big to go. Max out? That’s over $12,000 for 1.125 million miles."

Aeroplan points purchases are processed by points.com and do not code as travel or airfare on credit cards.

Air Canada's award chart is considered reasonable; for example, flights from the U.S. East Coast to Europe in business class require 60,000 points each way with no fuel surcharges and an additional cost of only 5,000 extra points for a stopover. Customers flying Air Canada can also pay additional miles for full refundability and access the Signature Suite prior to departure in Toronto or Vancouver.
