Each Saturday morning, Adrian Waltz reviews newly added and removed flights from airline schedules. This week, he noted a significant update from American Airlines.

"I love to see American adding Fort Myers and Tampa from New York," Waltz said. "Alaska announced this week a bunch of new flights out of Boise plus some surprising Mexico service from non-hub airports."

A standout addition is the new route from Miami to South Caicos airport. At approximately 600 miles, it is only 50 miles further than flying to Providenciales but opens up new resort opportunities.

Waltz shared his findings on social media: "The latest Diio update had the following adds (Green), and removals (Red) of domestic routes by major carriers this week." He included a link to the update in his tweet.

South Caicos airport is not among the largest airports in Turks and Caicos. Currently, InterCaribbean offers commercial air service to Providenciales, and Caicos Airways Express operates domestic flights. Notably, South Caicos airport lacks immigration and customs facilities; even private aircraft must first clear at Providenciales or Grand Turk before continuing to South Caicos.

Waltz praised American Airlines' recent initiatives in the Caribbean. "I really like some of the small plays American has done in the Caribbean the past few years," he remarked, citing flights to Beef Island in the BVI and Ocho Rios as examples.

These efforts benefit passengers by providing more efficient travel options to desirable destinations. Waltz mentioned his experience at Park Hyatt St. Kitts but noted limited air service as an inconvenience.

The appeal of South Caicos airport lies in its proximity to Sailrock Resort, a notable use of Hilton Honors points through their partnership with SLH Hotels. Guests can book a 955 square foot Ridgetop Ocean View Suite for 130,000 Hilton points per night, with elite members receiving a fifth night free. The property typically costs around $1,500 per night during winter months.

Waltz shared his personal experience: "Last year when I went to Turks and Caicos I stayed on Grace Bay Beach using points at Point Grace Resort because it was so much easier with a then-four-year-old, avoiding the extra flight. But I would have preferred Sail Rock."
