Returning on Lufthansa from Toronto to Munich after trying out the front-row business-plus Allegris Business Suite, John Walton requested to be moved from the Business Suite assigned to him to another seat in order to evaluate it. The Allegris design features a wide variety of seats, which Lufthansa plans to charge as seven different categories. However, Walton identified eleven materially different seats on the current Allegris A350.

The types of seats include:

- Business Suite single front-row (window), like 2A or 8K

- Business Suite pair front-row (center), like 2D or 8G

- Extra Space throne, like 3E or 11F

- Extra Long Bed with storage locker, like 4G

- Extra Long Bed with privacy screen and extra shoulder room but without storage locker, like 6D

- Privacy Seat, staggered window-adjacent, like 3A or 9K

- Privacy Seat, staggered window-adjacent with large side table and bassinet crib, like 7K

- Classic Seat, staggered aisle-adjacent, outboard, like 4H

- Classic Seat, staggered aisle-adjacent center section with privacy screen and extra shoulder room but without storage locker, like 6G

- Classic Seat, staggered aisle-adjacent center section without privacy screen or extra shoulder room but with storage locker, like 10D

- Classic Seat staggered aisle-adjacent with large side table (but no bassinet crib), like 12H

Walton was assigned an Extra Long Bed seat at the back of the cabin (6D). He noted that this type provides more shoulder space due to its square shrouding. While he appreciated the additional bed length advertised by Lufthansa (20cm), he found that the footwell curves made this extra space less effective.

Storage was limited in these seats. There is a single bin near the shoulder already filled with noise-cancelling headphones provided by Lufthansa. Overhead bins are removed from Zone A between doors one and two but not past Zone two.

The cabin's open feel results in reduced privacy for passengers in these seats compared to other configurations within Allegris. Walton suggested that additional dividers could improve this issue. He also observed that movements from neighboring passengers caused noticeable shaking of his seat structure.

In terms of comfort during sleep mode, Walton found the seat hard and lacking cushioning since only Business Suite passengers receive mattress pads. He recommended adjustments to improve sleeping support.

Walton highlighted issues related to production quality such as fabric misalignment and creasing visible on multiple seats including his own. Additionally, he suggested improvements for user interface around seat controls for better accessibility.

Reflecting on his experience aboard other aircrafts’ business class products such as "Lifthansa" Vantage XL A350 cabin inherited from Philippine Airlines and others from Asiana’s A380s and Emirates’ superjumbos; Walton pondered whether lessons learned could enhance Allegris during its rollout or if alternative products might be more suitable for certain aircraft models.

John Walton was a guest of Lufthansa; however all opinions expressed are his own.
