Aviation Capital Group (ACG) has confirmed the purchase of 35 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with deliveries scheduled to conclude by 2031. The US-based aircraft leasing company, which has orders from both Airbus and Boeing, announced that this acquisition provides a significant boost to Boeing's commercial efforts for the 737 MAX.

The order includes 16 units of the 737 MAX 8 and 19 units of the 737 MAX 10. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has yet to certify the latter for commercial operations. Thomas Baker, CEO and president of ACG, remarked that this firm order enhances the strategic value of ACG’s order book and supports its growth strategy. "We look forward to supporting our airline customers throughout the world with these highly versatile and fuel-efficient aircraft," Baker said.

Brad McMullen, Boeing's Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, noted that ACG’s repeat order demonstrates that its customer airlines are seeking flexible and fuel-efficient fleets. McMullen emphasized ACG's role as a valued partner in the 737 MAX program and expressed anticipation for delivering next-generation aircraft to ACG’s customers.

While specific delivery dates or potential customers were not disclosed in the joint statement from both companies, Tokyo Century, ACG's parent company, stated on July 12 that deliveries would be completed by 2031.

According to ch-aviation data, ACG currently has an order backlog comprising various aircraft types: 20 A220-300s, ten A320neos, 23 A321neos, five A321XLRs, 41 737 MAX 8s, and six 737 MAX 10s. Presently managing a fleet that includes several models of the Boeing series, all four of its owned Boeing 737 MAX 9s are operated by Copa Airlines. The lessor also manages a fleet of fourteen Boeing 737 MAX 8s delivered to various airlines including Aerolíneas Argentinas and WestJet.

Despite recent challenges and scrutiny faced by Boeing regarding the safety record of the 737 MAX—marked by two fatal crashes—the model continues to perform well for many airlines. As of June end, Boeing had booked only limited orders for the year but hopes to secure additional contracts during events like the upcoming Farnborough International Airshow.

In contrast to its competitors at Airbus who have advanced with models such as the A321neo and its derivatives (A321LR and A321XLR), Boeing faces ongoing challenges in maintaining competitiveness within this segment.
