ITA Airways offers status matches for frequent flyers from 19 airlines, including a 10,000-point bonus. The Volare program lets passengers outside Italy earn elite status in SkyTeam with perks across carriers. A simple registration process allows applicants to submit status match requests for recognition within 60 days.

Italian flag carrier ITA Airways has announced an offer for frequent flyers from 19 airline loyalty programs worldwide. The status match allows members to obtain elite status with ITA based on their existing frequent flyer status and comes with a 10,000-point bonus for all successful applicants.

The airline's Volare frequent flyer program is just over two years old and has already reached 2.1 million members. The newest promotion offers a way for passengers outside of Italy to earn elite status in the SkyTeam Alliance, which comes with perks across carriers from Delta Air Lines to Air France/KLM and its most recent addition, Virgin Atlantic.

The registration process is simple. Applicants must be a Volare member with a residence address outside of Italy and frequent flyer status at one of the 19 eligible airlines. They must not have participated in previous Volare Status Match campaigns. The challenge runs until August 19th, 2024, and is open to frequent flyers with recently expired elite status as long as the expiration date is no earlier than January 2023.

To enter, one must complete the following steps:

The Status Match request can only be submitted through the dedicated "Status Match" section within your Volare personal area. Once you have accessed your Volare personal area, you will have to provide, within the dedicated fields, the following information:

- Name of the originating airline program

- Existing frequent flyer status

- A photo of the current loyalty card

- A valid identity document (which will be used for the sole purpose of this initiative and will be deleted at the end of the Status Match campaign).

Once the Status match request is submitted, a message will be displayed confirming that the request has been successfully submitted, together with the related request identification number. According to the airline, successful applicants will see their new status and a digital card will be awarded and recognized by ITA Airways systems upon verification within 60 days from the date of the request.

Successful applicants will be awarded 10,000 qualifying Volare points for future redemptions as a bonus. The complete list of eligible frequent flyer programs can be found below:

The Volare program is designed for maximum simplicity and flexibility in earning and spending points and features four tiers: Club Smart (entry-level), Club Plus, Club Premium, and Club Executive. Each tier brings additional benefits such as extra baggage allowance, priority boarding and check-in, and dedicated customer service.

The program is built on values like Freedom, Personalization, Choice, and Connection and features over 30 commercial partners from hospitality, mobility, and finance sectors. Members can also collect and spend miles on flights with fellow SkyTeam Alliance members. The opportunity to earn miles is even accessible to children via its "Volare AVVENTURA" subprogram.

According to an airline spokesperson, there is a strong focus on international development of the program. Over a third (36%) of Volare members are from overseas locations; USA, Brazil, France, and Argentina rank as top foreign markets.

The status match follows news that the European Commission has approved Lufthansa's purchase of ITA Airways. This move is expected to see ITA switch from SkyTeam Alliance to join Lufthansa Group carriers in Star Alliance.
