United Airlines has issued an apology to a passenger and suspended the flight attendant involved in a recent incident. The passenger, NFL Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis, reported that he lightly tapped a flight attendant on the arm to get his attention, but was accused of hitting him.

"This is clearly not the kind of travel experience we strive to provide, and we have reached out to Mr. Davis’s team to apologize," United said in a statement. "We have removed the flight attendant from duty while we closely review this matter."

Davis shared details of the incident on social media, stating that he was traveling with his wife and three children when his son asked the flight attendant for ice. According to Davis, after he tapped the attendant lightly on the arm, the attendant turned around and shouted, "Don’t hit me." Davis believed the situation had been resolved until they arrived at their destination. Upon landing, passengers were instructed by the captain to remain seated as six police officers boarded the plane and handcuffed Davis before escorting him away.
