Fraport has announced a significant advancement in the upgrade of security checkpoints at Frankfurt Airport. Nine additional checkpoints equipped with modern CT technology and an innovative lane concept are now operational in Departures B-West of Terminal 1. This development aims to expedite passenger movement through this high-traffic area.

Dr. Pierre Dominique Prümm, Fraport AG's Executive Director of Aviation and Infrastructure, stated: “I am happy to announce that we now have additional state-of-the-art security checkpoints in operation for the summer season. My special thanks go to the project team, the suppliers from the industry and our partner, the Federal Police, for implementing this complex project in record time. The use of the new technology is proving effective. On the busy travel days during the recent Easter and Whitsun school vacations, there were no significant waiting times for passengers at the security checkpoints. For the upcoming summer peak season, we are now offering our guests a smoother and faster experience at these busy checkpoints while maintaining high security standards. In total, we have equipped 40 passenger screening checkpoints in both terminals with the new technology.”

Approximately 35,000 passengers on 200 flights depart daily from Concourse B of Terminal 1. The new checkpoints in B-West feature CT scanners from Leidos that facilitate faster and more convenient checks by allowing passengers to keep electronic devices and liquids in their hand luggage without separate presentation. The modular design of security lanes from Italian manufacturer Gilardoni enables easy replacement or adaptation of individual components as needed. Multiple passengers can place their carry-on luggage on the belt simultaneously, accelerating the process overall. Additionally, these lanes include a fully automated tray return system which increases throughput by around 30 percent compared to older checkpoints without CT technology.

Fraport plans to extend these advanced security measures across all terminals at Frankfurt Airport, including future installations at Terminal 3 where integration into design plans has already begun.
