Hyatt has announced a new partnership with Under Canvas through its Mr and Mrs Smith collaboration, expanding its luxury glamping offerings. This partnership includes 13 outdoor resorts located in prominent destinations such as Yellowstone National Park and the Great Smoky Mountains.

Members can now earn Hyatt points and elite qualifying nights on paid stays at these Under Canvas properties. Points can also be redeemed for stays, although the redemption value is relatively low at approximately 1.2 cents per point.

"Since it’s under Mr and Mrs Smith, redemption value is poor – assume about 1.2 cents per point," an observer noted.

Despite assurances that properties within the Mr and Mrs Smith partnership are not supposed to have capacity controls on redemptions, some users have reported difficulties finding award space even when paid night availability is ample. This discrepancy is attributed to Hyatt purchasing rooms directly from the property when points are used.

While upscale glamping may appeal to certain travelers, it is recommended that those planning paid stays compare pricing carefully, as bookings through Hyatt are not eligible for a best rate guarantee. For those redeeming points at the specified rate of 1.2 cents each, earning elite nights remains a benefit.

In comparison, Hilton offers AutoCamp accommodations including airstreams, cabins, and tents. Although this type of travel may not appeal to everyone, it holds significant value for certain customers.
