United Airlines flight 2477 from Houston to Boston was diverted to Washington Dulles after a passenger on board created what the airline described as a “medical issue.” The Boeing 737-800, which departed at 9:39 a.m., landed at the D.C. area airport around 1:36 p.m. with 155 passengers and six crewmembers on board.

A United spokesperson stated, "The aircraft is currently undergoing a deep clean and we are working to get customers on their way to Boston soon."

Communications between the plane and air traffic control revealed more details about the incident. A doctor on board noted, "with this kind of being a biohazard, I think we need to get this plane on the ground ASAP." The situation was severe enough that "the crew is vomiting and passengers all around are asking for masks…I talked to the crew and it sounds like it’s quite bad back there." Despite this, medical assistance was not required upon arrival.

Reports indicate that biohazards have been an ongoing concern recently, citing incidents such as Delta flights where passengers became ill from moldy chicken and other similar situations.
