Steven C. Hennigan named executive director/CEO of Lee County Port Authority

The Lee County Board of Port Commissioners has appointed Steven C. Hennigan, C.M., A.C.E., as the executive director and CEO of the Lee County Port Authority as of July 30, 2024. In his new role, Hennigan will oversee the administration, operations, and development of Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) and Page Field (FMY) in Fort Myers, Florida.

“I look forward to working with the board and the outstanding employees at Southwest Florida International Airport and Page Field,” said Hennigan. “I am excited about the opportunity to lead our airports into the future with the Terminal Expansion projects at RSW and the completion of the South Quadrant Hangars and Ramp Project at Page Field, as well as work closely with our community leaders to promote business and tourism in the region.”

Hennigan joined the Lee County Port Authority in May 2021 and has most recently served as interim executive director. Previously, he was deputy executive director of aviation and chief operating officer, overseeing a division of more than 300 employees at RSW and FMY. With over 20 years of experience in aviation leadership, Hennigan was formerly chief of operations for the Houston Airport System (HAS), managing operations at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU). He also held several roles at Denver International Airport (DEN), including aviation operations manager.

Hennigan is a certified member of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) and an AAAE Airport Certified Employee in security and operations. He serves on the board for the Tony Jannus Distinguished Aviation Society and is a member of the Florida Airports Council. Additionally, he is an executive committee member of the Horizon Council, advising on economic development issues. Hennigan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in aviation business administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona, and has a commercial pilot rating.

Southwest Florida International Airport served over 10 million passengers in 2023, ranking among the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic. Page Field provides services to corporate, commercial, and private aviators with more than 200,000 aircraft operations recorded in 2023. Both airports operate without ad valorem taxes; their funding is solely derived from revenue generated through their operations.
