The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), in collaboration with John Wayne Airport (JWA), announced the arrival of a new Crash 3 vehicle. The state-of-the-art apparatus is designed to enhance emergency response capabilities, particularly for incidents involving aircraft fires and flammable liquids. To commemorate this addition, a traditional "push-in" ceremony was held on Monday, July 8, 2024, at OCFA Fire Station 33.

Equipped with advanced technology and safety features, the new Crash 3 vehicle aims to significantly improve efficiency and effectiveness in managing complex fire scenarios. Key features include high-capacity foam and dry chemical fire suppression systems, state-of-the-art rescue tools for rapid victim extrication, and cutting-edge communication technology to ensure seamless coordination with other emergency services.

Interviewees at the event included Airport Director Charlene Reynolds, Supervisor Katrina Foley from the Fifth District, OCFA Division Chief Nick Freeman, OCFA Fire Apparatus Engineer Mike Heddlesten, and OCFA Battalion Chief Ray McQueen.

The "push-in" ceremony is a tradition in fire service history dating back to the 1800s when firefighters had to manually push horse-drawn equipment back into the station after returning from a call. This historical practice continues today to welcome new apparatus into service.
