IndiGo has become the latest low-cost carrier to alter its business model by offering a premium product. The Indian operator has revealed that a tailor-made business class offering — called IndiGoStretch — will be flown on its “busiest and business routes” starting in November.

Traditionally a no-frills airline, IndiGo has selected Recaro Aircraft Seating’s R5 recliner to be installed up front on a few dozen A321neo twinjets.

The recliners feature 38” pitch, privacy wings, universal and USB-C power, and an oversized center console with storage for small items. Recaro’s R2 slimline seats will be installed in economy class.

“A total of 45 shipsets have been ordered to meet this upgrade, with each A321neo aircraft featuring 12 business class seats and 208 economy class seats,” confirms Recaro in a statement.

“Aircraft deliveries are scheduled to begin in Q4 2024, and all business class installations are expected to be completed by the end of 2025.” Financial terms have not been disclosed.

As part of its transformation, IndiGo has also announced the launch of a new loyalty program called IndiGo BluChip.

“As India’s leading carrier, we are constantly looking at ways of improving our service offering for our millions of our customers. With India’s soaring economy and the evolving aspirations of the Indian society, it’s time for us to redefine air travel once again and provide our evolving customers more benefits as they travel the world on us,” said IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers.

“I am pleased to announce a new era of our IndiGo journey with the launch of IndiGoStretch, a tailor-made business product; and IndiGo BluChip — our much-awaited loyalty program. In addition, we have also launched a completely refreshed website and app with several features to make our customers experience more hassle-free."

“We are excited with this new era of IndiGo’s journey as we will continue to deliver on our core promises of being on-time, offering affordable fares, and delivering courteous and hassle-free travel experiences across our unparalleled network.”
