A Cessna 172 has gained significant attention on social media this week after completing a ferry flight from California to Hawaii.

According to FlightAware, the aircraft, N176TA, departed Merced Regional Airport (KMCE) in California on Tuesday and flew approximately 2,425 miles before landing in Honolulu, Hawaii, 18 hours later. The flight covered more than three times the range of the 2018 Cessna 172 Skyhawk SP, marking it as an impressive achievement.

FlightAware data indicated that the aircraft maintained an altitude of around 5,975 feet for most of the journey, reaching a peak altitude of 8,000 feet. The aircraft cruised at a speed of 130 knots with a peak speed of 155 knots toward the end of the flight.

An article from The Autopian reported that ferry pilot Tom Lopes had made the same trip two years prior. Lopes detailed his strategy in a YouTube video, explaining that every inch of the aircraft’s interior was equipped with fuel cells.

The journey elicited both praise and astonishment from aviation enthusiasts who tracked it on social media.
