Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has recognized the winners of the 2023 LAX Fly Quieter Program for their efforts to reduce aircraft noise. Airline operations at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) are rated based on five scoring elements: aircraft noise levels measured by monitors in residential communities, noise level ratings of an airline's fleet as certified by the Federal Aviation Administration, the number of early turns over communities during take-off, non-conforming easterly departures during nighttime hours between midnight and 6:30 a.m., and compliance with the LAX nighttime maintenance engine run-up restriction from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The LAX Fly Quieter Program is unique in allowing airlines to earn additional bonus points for voluntarily using noise-mitigating technology on aircraft and engaging with neighboring communities and stakeholders, such as participating in the LAX/Community Noise Roundtable.

Airlines were recognized within three categories based on their average daily operations at LAX:

Category 3 (Four or fewer average daily operations):

In 2023, United Airlines earned bonus points for completing a retrofit program of Airbus 320 aircraft. United, Spirit Airlines, and Alaska Airlines also earned points for participating in LAX/Community Noise Roundtable meetings.

The Fly Quieter Program began in January 2020 as an education and recognition initiative designed to encourage proactive efforts by airlines to minimize noise at LAX. While airports cannot impose mandatory aircraft noise limits, the program acknowledges airlines that follow LAX noise abatement procedures, use quieter aircraft, and adopt voluntary noise-reduction measures where feasible. Since its inception, four airlines have participated in LAX/Community Noise Roundtable meetings, contributing valuable input to discussions addressing aircraft noise issues. Four airlines were also recognized in both 2022 and 2023 for completing voluntary programs to retrofit specific aircraft with noise-reducing technologies.
