Passengers express frustration over nail painting on flight from L.A. to Belize

Before airline deregulation, airline tickets were prohibitively expensive for most people. Now, anyone who can purchase a ticket is allowed on flights. While there is no decency requirement, certain behaviors by passengers remain contentious.

Among the actions that passengers find objectionable are draping hair over another passenger's seat back, covering their entertainment screen, and placing bare feet in inappropriate places such as on tray tables.

A particularly egregious behavior involves personal grooming, such as clipping toenails at one's seat and not properly disposing of the clippings. This raises questions about the acceptability of other grooming activities in-flight.

An incident involving an Alaska Airlines passenger has sparked debate. The woman was observed applying nail polish during a flight from Los Angeles to Belize. The act not only involved painting her nails but also released the smell of nail polish into the cabin for the duration of the four-hour forty-three-minute flight.

Some passengers may be indifferent to such actions; however, it does not justify subjecting others to them. This type of behavior is not isolated and reflects a broader issue of acceptable conduct within confined spaces like aircraft cabins.

Passengers suggest that personal grooming should be reserved for private spaces such as hotel bathrooms or homes after flights conclude. They advocate for bringing alternative activities to occupy oneself during flights.
