Gulfstream has conducted the inaugural flight of its G400 test article, marking a significant step for its range of big-cabin business jets. The program was announced in 2021 alongside the ultra-long-range G800, which took its first flight in 2022 but remains uncertified due to delays stemming from COVID-19 and FAA regulatory changes following issues with the Boeing MAX. Gulfstream aims to secure certification for the G800 by year-end.

The initial flight of the G400 occurred on Friday, departing from Gulfstream's Savannah factory. The aircraft flew for nearly three hours, reaching an altitude of 41,000 feet and achieving Mach .85. This first flight utilized a blend of sustainable aviation fuel.

Equipped with Pratt & Whitney Canada PW812GA engines, the G400 is projected to have a range of 4,200 nautical miles and can accommodate up to 12 passengers. Additional features include a 100% fresh air system and low cabin altitude pressurization.
