Since Airbus, Delta, OneWeb, Sprint, and Airtel launched the Seamless Air Alliance in 2018, it has welcomed numerous airlines, airframers, telcos, satellite operators, and suppliers as members. The shared goal is to build inflight connectivity (IFC) standards that enhance the passenger experience by enabling mobile operators to extend their services into the cabin.

Several expert working groups within the organization address different challenges. For instance, Architecture and Interoperability explores opportunities for onboard equipment interoperability and interchangeability under the leadership of executives from Airbus and Boeing. Meanwhile, Hosted Platforms is building a framework for general-purpose IFC computing with open-standard software-defined functionality under Kontron's chairmanship.

A relatively new working group called the Airline Forum allows member airlines to collaborate on improving IFC experiences. This forum helps Seamless identify issues to tackle next. Alaska Airlines' Inflight Product & Experience Director David Scotland founded the Airline Forum in October 2022 and has been actively involved since joining. Among his accomplishments are developing the group's IFC Toolkit for measuring service quality and creating the Seamless Certified Service Quality program.

Seamless Air Alliance recently announced Anna Sieber as the new Chair of the Airline Forum. Currently responsible for inflight entertainment and connectivity performance at JetBlue, Sieber brings significant experience to this role.

“Prior to her current position, she played a pivotal role in JetBlue’s onboard technology and inflight entertainment as part of the airline’s Product Development team,” notes Seamless in a statement on LinkedIn. “In her new capacity as Chair, Anna is eager to collaborate with fellow airline members and the IFC Technical Forum.”

Runway Girl Network reached out to Sieber regarding her work at Seamless and JetBlue.

“I am thrilled and honored to assume the role as Chair of the Airline Forum for Seamless Air Alliance! I’ve been a participating member of Seamless for a couple years now,” she said.

Sieber expressed particular excitement about an initiative between the Airline Forum and Tech Forum (chaired by Thales and Telesat) aimed at establishing consistent metrics for measuring passenger Quality of Experience (QoE).

“JetBlue has been at the forefront of IFC offerings being the first US airline to offer fast, free Wi-Fi on all flights," says Sieber.

Sieber chaired her first Airline Forum meeting virtually in July. “I think the most important takeaway from this opportunity is being able to meet other folks in the industry,” she noted.

Her enthusiasm was not surprising to her colleagues at JetBlue. “My start in aviation was unconventional," she confided.

“I’ve also watched many airlines follow JetBlue’s lead offering free inflight Wi-Fi," she added.

Sieber advises those looking to start a career in aviation: "Just go for it; apply for jobs or reach out for more information."

Seamless CEO Jack Mandala commented on Sieber's appointment: “Her enthusiasm will help us continue delivering innovative outcomes.”

Mandala also praised David Scotland's contributions: "David’s drive has been instrumental in determining how to measure IFC service quality."
