ForeFlight is showcasing new features of its mobile app at EAA AirVenture 2024, including demonstrations of the ForeFlight Voyager app for Apple’s Vision Pro virtual reality headset. Interested visitors must sign up for these demos at the ForeFlight exhibit and be 16 years or older.

Job seekers attending the AirVenture Job Fair may explore open positions at ForeFlight, which will share a booth with parent company Boeing. According to Ryan McBride, head of community, over one-third of ForeFlight employees are pilots. "There are a lot of ways pilots and aviation enthusiasts can help make ForeFlight a better product," McBride stated.

Among recent updates to the ForeFlight flight-planning and electronic flight bag app is the Discover tab. This feature highlights user-generated content such as events and includes a new education section. Users can search for events across the U.S., with plans to add international events later. Events are sourced from calendars maintained by AOPA and EAA, with submissions appearing in ForeFlight within 24 hours. The Discover tab allows users to view events as a list or geographically and filter them by date and type.

“There’s a lot more to aviation than just the planning and the flying part,” said McBride. “There’s education, meeting up with others, and joining different communities. Our new Discover tab is the new home for user-generated content.”

The education section consolidates all training videos published by ForeFlight in an easily accessible location requiring an internet connection. "We have big plans for moving forward lots of different types of content we want to include in this area," McBride added.

June updates also introduced an artificial intelligence summary of airport user comments and included FAA letters to airmen (LTA) in airport information sections, simplifying access to local procedures explained by controllers.

A feature released in May allows pilots flying to AirVenture to view reported turbulence on their routes, thanks to increased data from Sentry ADS-B In devices carried by many aircraft heading to Oshkosh.

ForeFlight's sister company Jeppesen has simplified its nav data menu for Garmin and Avidyne avionics from over 100 coverage choices down to 14, with reduced prices for larger coverage areas.

Since its release in February, Voyager has received consistent updates. Users can now access background information on any aircraft type using artificial intelligence while wearing the Vision Pro headset. Additionally, two Vision Pro users can share views over FaceTime calls, and LiveATC airport audio integration was added post-release.
