Headset manufacturer Bose has returned to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, offering visitors the opportunity to try on its new A30 or ProFlight Series 2 active noise reduction (ANR) headsets. Additionally, attendees can experience Bose’s consumer speakers and headphones. For buyers of an A30 or ProFlight Series 2 through August 17, 2024, Bose is providing a complimentary SoundLink Bluetooth speaker and onsite repairs at AirVenture.

Visitors will also have the chance to meet Bose pilot ambassadors Stevie Triesenberg, Michael Goulian, Angle of Attack, FlightChops, and the Titan aerobatic team during the event.

Mike Dodge, head of global aviation and Americas focus markets at Bose, confirmed that production of the A20 headset has ceased. According to Dodge, A20 owners are now purchasing A30s for themselves while repurposing their A20s for passenger use. “The A20 is an iconic product,” he stated. “The A30 is doing a great job. People understand the benefits.”

The A30 is marginally lighter than the A20 by about a fifth of an ounce. Pilots reportedly notice the difference in its lighter clamping pressure. The new design distributes weight more evenly around the head and includes a gap at the top to accommodate baseball cap buttons without causing discomfort. “It almost feels like there’s no pressure on your head,” said Dodge. He also noted that the thinner and more robust headset cable has shown excellent durability: “It’s more maneuverable, and we’ve seen zero issues.”

Bose is collaborating with aviation universities and academies to educate new pilots on ANR technology's benefits and encourage early adoption of headsets in their flying careers. Flight instructors can purchase a Bose A30 at a discounted price of $1,199 compared to the retail price of $1,299.

“An aviation headset will be with you for the long haul,” said Dodge. “It impacts the quality of your communication, your ability to stay focused during flight, and your overall enjoyment of the experience. It’s important to find a headset that meets all of your needs.”
