A woman shared her experience as a middle seat passenger stuck between two manspreaders on a Flair Airlines flight from Winnipeg to Edmonton. She described how the man at the window seat encroached into her space, and despite her attempts to nudge his legs back, he did not comply. She eventually resorted to pushing his knee more aggressively.

Flair Airlines responded to the incident with a statement: "We don’t think we should be stepping into this disagreement between two customers."

The issue of manspreading is contentious, with some arguing that limited space on flights justifies it. However, airlines typically offer seats with more space for an additional fee, such as extra legroom or wider seats.

Passengers are generally entitled only to the space within their own seat confines. The window seat passenger can lean into the window, the middle seat passenger gets both armrests, and the aisle seat passenger can lean into the aisle at their own risk.

To handle a seat-spreading situation, passengers are advised to start with a polite conversation. If that fails and there is an empty seat available, they should ask a crewmember if they can change seats. If no other seats are available, enlisting a crewmember's help may ensure that all passengers remain within their designated spaces.

Passengers should not have to endure such discomfort, but escalation options are limited while onboard an aircraft.
