A passenger is seeking compensation after purchasing a full-fare business class ticket on Qatar Airways for a flight from Miami to Doha. Despite an otherwise pleasant experience, their rest was disturbed by "exotic birds being transported in cargo directly below us."

"The crew said it was 'a lot,'" the passenger recounted. "The crew said the hope was that they’d settle down once we reached cruising altitude, but that did not happen. Those birds screamed and squawked the entire 14 hours. I slept with earplugs, and they still woke me up several times. Not what I expected from this flight."

The passenger had booked an American Airlines codeshare for travel on Qatar Airways, leading to confusion about which airline would handle their complaint. "It was a Qatar-operated flight, even though they bought the ticket from American and it had an American flight number," the passenger noted. "Codeshares are confusing! Qatar is the responsible party. They are great in the air but terrible when things do not go well."

Falcons flying as cargo or even in cabins is not uncommon in the Middle East, where these birds hold cultural significance. Several years ago, a Saudi prince bought tickets for 80 falcons, each occupying its own seat.

Qatar Airways has specific policies regarding falcons in cabins due to their frequent transport in the region. The airline's policy allows each falcon to bring one dead animal onboard as carrion.
