Aviation analytics company Cirium has released its August data on airline on-time performance. Delta Air Lines has posted an 80.9% on-time arrival performance, securing the top position in North America. United Airlines and Southwest Airlines followed closely, both maintaining an on-time rate of over 78%.

American Airlines ranked above only Spirit Airlines, Frontier Airlines, and JetBlue Airways at the bottom of the list. Notably, American was more likely to cancel flights than Spirit and Frontier. This poor showing in August is consistent with Department of Transportation data from June and the first half of the year that also indicated subpar performance for the Dallas-based carrier.

Delta was slightly outperformed in on-time performance for August by LATAM Airlines.

Globally, Aeromexico and Saudia have demonstrated strong operational performance over several months. Thai AirAsia emerged as the most on-time airline in Asia for August, followed closely by Vietnam Airlines and Singapore Airlines. Thai AirAsia achieved a 100% completion factor for the month, meaning no flights were canceled throughout August, though approximately 0.5% of their data wasn't included in the sample.

The most on-time airports often correspond to where the most punctual airlines operate hubs. Mexico City International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh were identified as the most punctual global airports. Los Angeles International Airport topped large U.S. airports despite construction and congestion challenges, followed by Salt Lake City International Airport.

Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport received recognition among large airports due to Hawaii's consistently favorable weather conditions.
