Southwest Airlines has introduced a new feature for its Companion Pass holders, allowing them to change their designated companion online. Previously, customers had to call the airline to make this change.

The Southwest Companion Pass permits travelers to bring a companion along for just the cost of taxes, provided there is an available seat for sale. This benefit applies whether the primary ticket is purchased with cash or points.

A Twitter user, who goes by the handle うさぎ Dragon (@DisneyDragon), expressed surprise at this development: "you can change your Southwest Companion online now!?!?" accompanied by a picture of the updated feature.

One traveler shared their experience with the pass: "My last companion pass, earned in January 2022, ran through December 2023. I’d buy a ticket for myself, my wife was my companion (so most trips cost just TSA fees for her travel) and then I redeemed Rapid Rewards points for my daughter’s seat."

For those living in major Southwest cities like Austin, where the airline is the largest carrier, having a Companion Pass offers significant value if they have time to utilize it frequently.
