The Balboa Island Museum Exhibit at John Wayne Airport takes travelers on a century-long journey through the history of coastal Orange County. The display features scenes of legendary citizens, including John Wayne, Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, Laura Scudder, the Irvine Family, the Beek Family, Walt Disney and Disneyland, and the Nixon Library. These figures have significantly contributed to Orange County culture and impacted life at the beach.

The exhibit provides a nostalgic glimpse into both the glory and growth of coastal Orange County along with its developmental challenges. Hoey and her team have curated a photo gallery and editorial content spanning a 200-foot gallery in the terminal for thousands of travelers to enjoy. Since its foundation, Balboa Island Museum has welcomed approximately 350,000 visitors through its doors at 210 Marine Avenue on iconic Balboa Island. Many visitors arrive via John Wayne Airport.

The Destination Gallery at John Wayne Airport partners with local Orange County arts and culture organizations to showcase their offerings to both visitors and locals. This exhibition featuring local history will be on view through January 27, 2025. The Destination Gallery is located on the upper level on the non-secure side of the airport between Terminals B & C and is accessible to the public at any time.
