Long Beach Airport has reported its busiest summer on record, with over 1.1 million passengers passing through between June 1 and August 31, 2024. This figure marks a 4% increase compared to the previous record set in 2018.

“This historic summer travel record is a testament to the hard work of everyone at our Long Beach Airport in providing unmatched service to travelers,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “Their dedication is why passengers place their trust in LGB as their preferred gateway in and out of Southern California."

A total of 1,104,994 travelers visited Long Beach Airport during this period, representing a 14% increase compared to the same time frame in 2023. This growth significantly exceeds the projected industrywide growth rate of 6% for the season. The airport's recovery from the pandemic is notable, as only 111,437 travelers were recorded during the summer of 2020. The previous peak was set in 2018 with 1,062,202 travelers.

“The impressive growth we've seen this summer demonstrates the confidence passengers have in Long Beach Airport," said Long Beach Airport Director Cynthia Guidry. "We are thrilled to set a new benchmark and remain committed to providing an exceptional travel experience with the completion of our Terminal Area Improvements Program.”

Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, and Southwest Airlines currently offer services to 24 nonstop destinations across the nation, including Hawaii—more nonstop service than at any other time in LGB’s history.

Recent modernizations under LGB’s $125 million Phase II – Terminal Area Improvements Program have enhanced passenger convenience from curb to gate. The Historic Terminal reopened in July and is considered a landmark feature of the airport campus.

Long Beach Airport is centrally located between Los Angeles and Orange counties and aims to provide a stress-free journey and first-class customer experience.

Monthly commercial passenger traffic reports can be found on LGB’s website.
