Oman Air is set to finalize its membership in the Oneworld airline alliance by the second quarter of next year, according to CEO Con Korfiatis. This marks a delay in the Muscat-based carrier's plan, initially announced in 2022, to join the alliance this year. The delay was confirmed at the Routes World conference in Bahrain on October 7.

Korfiatis did not specify reasons for the delay but emphasized the benefits of joining Oneworld. "The alliance allows you to get a significant expansion" without using Oman Air's own aircraft, he stated. The airline's network currently spans from London to Manila and includes destinations like Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.

Oman Air operates 33 aircraft, including Boeing 737s and 787s, with additional orders placed for more of these models. Despite speculation about expanding routes, Korfiatis confirmed that U.S. flights are not being considered at this time.

In a recent development, Oman Air has rebranded its first-class cabin as "Business Studio," ceasing first-class ticket sales since August. This change responds to low demand for first class and business travelers' feedback restricted by corporate travel policies against first-class bookings. Since rebranding and lowering fares, bookings have increased by 50%.

"We looked at whether it made sense to rip it off and just have the aircraft in the same configuration as the rest of the 787-9 fleet," Korfiatis explained regarding maintaining existing configurations due to cost considerations.

Currently, Business Studios are available on two of Oman Air's Boeing 787s flying between Muscat and cities like Bangkok and London.
