Air Canada's Aeroplan loyalty program has emerged as a preferred choice for many travelers within the Star Alliance network. Despite not frequently visiting Canada, some travelers find Aeroplan's benefits appealing.

Aeroplan collaborates with major credit card programs, allowing members to convert points from American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Capital One, and Chase Ultimate Rewards into Aeroplan points at a 1:1 rate. These partnerships often come with generous welcome bonuses. For instance, the Platinum Card® from American Express offers up to 80,000 Membership Rewards points after specific spending criteria are met.

Transfer bonuses further enhance Aeroplan's appeal. Issuers like American Express and Chase occasionally provide bonuses of around 20% when transferring credit card points to Aeroplan.

The program also boasts an extensive list of airline partners. Members can earn and redeem points on various Star Alliance airlines such as Air Canada, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, and United Airlines. Additionally, non-alliance partners include Emirates and Etihad Airways.

Aeroplan awards follow a hybrid chart without surcharges for partner flights. This pricing structure considers flight length and regions traveled between. For example, flying business class from New York to Frankfurt on Singapore Airlines requires just 60,000 Aeroplan points plus taxes.

A notable feature is the ability to add stopovers for an additional 5,000 points per leg under certain conditions.

For those interested in Lufthansa first class travel to Europe post-Avianca LifeMiles' rate increase, Aeroplan offers competitive rates starting at 90,000 points from the East Coast.

The Air Canada Aeroplan® Credit Card from Chase is another highlight of the program. It offers new applicants up to 100,000 bonus points based on spending thresholds and provides benefits like triple points in key categories and statement credits for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck applications.

Despite changes in other loyalty programs throughout 2024 that increased redemption rates without notice, Air Canada's Aeroplan remains a strong option due to its ease of earning points and favorable redemption rates across numerous partner airlines.
