Federal Express Corporation has introduced the FedEx Import Tool (FiT) in South Africa, aiming to improve the efficiency of the import process for businesses. The launch comes as South Africa experiences an increase in import volumes, which rose by 8.5% in 2023 compared to the previous year, reaching a total value of $110 billion.

The FiT tool integrates advanced technology and user-focused design to enhance efficiency, compliance, and the overall shipment journey. Originally developed in India, it is being strategically introduced across key markets in the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and Africa.

FiT offers several features including a unified self-service platform for streamlining shipping processes by centralizing document management and shipment tracking. It also provides a dashboard for visibility into each stage of import shipments, proactive notifications to expedite clearance processes, a direct payment feature for customs duties and taxes online, and round-the-clock monitoring allowing shippers to track their shipments up to 90 days after pickup.

"Innovation that surpasses customer expectations is at the heart of everything we do," said Nitin Navneet Tatiwala, Vice President of FedEx Marketing for MEISA. He emphasized that understanding customer pain points guided FiT's development with the latest technology and automation to address specific needs.

FedEx aims to prioritize customer needs through innovation efforts that not only respond but anticipate changing demands in global commerce. The launch of FiT reinforces this commitment while supporting government initiatives aimed at enhancing South Africa’s import capabilities.
