Air New Zealand is preparing for a significant increase in domestic travel during the upcoming school holiday period. Scott Carr, General Manager Domestic at Air New Zealand, announced that the airline has added thousands of additional seats to accommodate the surge in demand from September 27 to October 13.

"With the increased demand for travel between 27 September and 13 October, we've added 25,000 extra seats across 260 domestic flights to help Kiwi get to where they need to be," Carr stated.

The airline anticipates its busiest day on Friday, with over 34,000 customers expected to travel across the country. "We're also expecting to carry some very precious cargo, with 5,500 unaccompanied minors and more than 300 furry friends currently booked to fly. We can't wait to see the heartwarming hugs and tail-wagging reunions in arrival halls across Aotearoa," Carr said.

As airports are set to become busier with travelers embarking on adventures, Air New Zealand offers advice for those flying this school holidays. The airline suggests allowing extra time for check-in when traveling with children or pets.

Wellington is a popular destination due to major events such as the All Blacks vs. Wallabies match at Sky Stadium and the World of WearableArt Show at TSB Arena. Internationally, there is increased capacity for flights to Bali and Niue as travelers seek beach escapes. Sydney remains a top choice among overseas destinations, with around 25,000 customers flying either to or from the city.

In an effort to ensure smooth travel experiences during this busy period, Air New Zealand has shared several tips:

- Download the Air NZ app for updates and check-in availability.

- Ensure contact details are accurate in bookings and Airpoints accounts.

- Prepay for extra baggage online if applicable.

- Allow additional time for airport procedures.

- Caregivers of unaccompanied minors should remain at the airport until takeoff.

- Verify travel insurance coverage due to unpredictable weather conditions.

For any assistance needed during these school holidays, Air New Zealand's Customer Care team is available around-the-clock through various communication channels.
