Mike Williams Chief Transformation and Alliances Officer | Air New Zealand

Air New Zealand is set to resume its seasonal service between Auckland and Seoul, starting on October 28, 2024. The airline plans to operate three flights per week in each direction until March 29, 2025, providing nearly 40,000 seats over the season.

Leanne Geraghty, Air New Zealand's Chief Customer and Sales Officer, emphasized the importance of the Korean market: "Korea continues to be an important market for us so it's fantastic to return to Seoul from next month. With three flights a week between the cities on our 787 Dreamliner there will be nearly 40,000 seats on offer for customers over five months."

Cargo services are also expected to benefit from this route. Last year saw more than 2,000 tonnes of cargo transported between Auckland and Seoul. "Seoul continues to be an important route for our cargo services too," Geraghty noted.

To mark the return of this service, Air New Zealand has introduced sale fares starting at $699 one way for travel to Korea. These fares are available until September 30, 2024.

Geraghty highlighted Seoul as a vibrant destination: "Seoul is an amazing destination for Kiwis to explore. It is modern and tech-savvy, and boasts a rich history with palaces, village-style neighbourhoods and traditions that reach back hundreds of years."

The airline anticipates strong demand from Korean travelers as well: "Equally, we're looking forward to seeing Koreans embrace the return of Air New Zealand services. For the same period last year, around 60 percent of demand on the route was out of Korea."

New Zealand's Prime Minister Christopher Luxon acknowledged Korea's significance in tourism and trade: "Korea is an important inbound tourism and trade market for Aotearoa. In the year ending June 2024, 70,000 arrivals came from Korea, making it the sixth-largest visitor market."
